Application Essay
Most college entrants make the mistake of including all of their activities and accomplishments in their application essay. An essay reads like what it is: a monotonous list. Other components of the application give abundance of space for you to make a list of extracurricular activities, so keep your lists for places where they belong.
The most compelling and engaging application essays descript a story and have an obvious concentration. Via carefully selected detail, your essay writing must show your passions and present your personality. A detailed and thoughtful narration of a rotten time in your life gives far more information about you than an enumeration of honors achieved and competitions won. Your scores and grades show you are clever. Use your application essay to show you are mature and thoughtful, that your individuality has depth.
While it is significant to be mature and thoughtful, you do not wish your essay to be too weighty. Try to make lighter your college application essay with a bright metaphor, a bit self-deprecating humor, or a well-placed witticism. But you should not overdo it. An essay filled with off-color jokes and bad puns will finish in the negative response pile. Besides, humor is not a substitute for essence. Your main task is to give the answer to your essay prompt thoughtfully.
